Book Three Dissent and division grow among the people of New Hampshire as they endure greater grid-down hardship. A few food sources are found, but the prospects of everyone surviving the winter are getting slim. A scheme by ‘free’ states to get aid to New Hampshire is blocked by federal forces. Susan holds the key to running the blockade, but she must leave Cheshire to help. While she is away, looters steal town supplies and take hostages. Many face a future of starvation, some face a quicker and more terrible end. Feedback from some pre-release readers “(Mic) has become one of my favorite survival authors. I love survival stories that are realistic to where I can imagine it really happening. The war lords, zombies, aliens and earth evacuation stuff don’t do much for me, but this kind of great material that (he) is putting out is fantastic.” — IL “Your writing is logical and practical; realistic and possible. Thank you!” — MNH “As good or better than many books I have purchased from ” — CB
Hunger Season Siege of New Hampshire Mic Roland 9781520167794 Books
We continue our focus upon the small town of Cheshire, New Hampshire. The power outage continues, food is getting scarce, tempers are growing thin. Notable developments occur in: (a) an understanding of the nature and cause of the crisis, (b) Statist efforts to control the community through agent provocateurs and otherwise, (c) the growing desperation of the populace counterbalanced by increasing inventiveness. This remains a series uncommon in its scope and setting. Typically, we see in PAW fiction, one or more events which have, effectively, destroyed America as we know it, and one or more gritty heroes emerge from the [CME/EMP/GTW/BIO-WAR/ISLAMIC ATTACKS] to find a nation in total ruin, and survivors killing each other in wholesale lots. NOT HERE. Instead, our author considers such meritorious concepts as:
* What about a situation where no mass extinction event has taken place? Here, the "power outage" event changed the country dramatically, but no mass casualties are yet seen. Rarely do authors explore the day-to-day loss of civility, hope, judgment which occur under the load of constant stress.
* What about civil/criminal LAW? Usually, in PAW fiction, those who "do unto you" get "done it"--"swift and permanent justice" at the point of a gun. Here, we are compelled to consider adapting our historic cultural norms to "jury rig" a justice system with a (patent attorney) as judge, and lay volunteers (some unwilling) to serve as prosecutor and defense attorney.
* What about the "urban/rural" divide? Here we have a community (even a state) which is semi-rural, but lacks just about everything needed to survive, while far away, in "constitutionally based states in the heartland" food is produced which will either save our New Hampshire "rebels" or fail them.
While "romantic" issues remain, they are (thankfully) few and are handled very well. While not as intense and focused as Siege 1 (or Siege 4, now being serialized, in part, elsewhere), this remains a solid entry in a franchise we trust will continue for a long time. This entire series provides the reader with a "this could really happen, just like this" feeling--and that's a rare and valuable achievement.

Hunger Season Siege of New Hampshire Mic Roland 9781520167794 Books Reviews
Absolutely a great series! I enjoyed reading all 3 of them and hopefully there will be more. Excellent author, excellent editing. THANKS
I hope there will be more please.it's got drama, action, humor, three dimensional characters.awesome.Very enjoyable read. When is the next book going to be out?
At times, grim, at time, hilarious. The series puts the politically correct nonsense front and center and provides a hilarious insight into how this silliness influences what should be common sense decisions and morphs them into a ridiculous action plan.
Well written and compelling...
This book represents and very fine effort in the survival genre delivering and exciting story filled with everyday people struggling to survive a catastrophic event that effects everyone. There are no super soldiers or endless ammo boxes to confound this book. Real people (fictitious but they seem real) learning how to simply get by using real world elements and common sense. I believe this is one of the best series I've read so far. Excellent work!!!
I think Mic Roland has me hooked on his great ability to tell a story that's near impossible to put down. I read the three book series & can't wait to continue where things left off. Each book got better than the next & I put Mic Roland in the top three authors of this type books! Its really nice to have a main character that is a get it done with whatever you have personality rather than the common shoot it up & hope it works that many write about.
This series is so great! Will there be another book, I hope so. I rank these books above others of this genre. His books are much better than those of Ralwes or Young. So practical and informative. I look at the un picked corn field quite differently this winter. I burn woo so I have a good idea now how to process that for a food resource if something should happen this winter. The area that I live in was once all a white pine forest so I have that food source. Cattails as a food source I am familiar with and we have lots of them in the swamps around here.
I hope there's one more book here. The can of Vienna sausages gives me hope, much like the hope that the Simmons have for the future.
Great job Mr Roland and thank you so much.
Love the series, but mistakenly thought it would come to a conclusion with this third book - which then begs the questions of when the next book will be available, and if it will be the final installment. I confess I'm growing weary of series that seem endless, no matter how good they are. I'm weary to the point now that if I see a series that reveals to begin with that it will exceed being a trilogy, I just don't start reading. I like the plot of this series, love the characters, but just don't like to be left hanging for extended periods of time - I'm 66 years old, and can't really count on being around long enough to wait a long time for another book, and also can't remember the details of numerous series long enough to be able to pick up a new book and remember all that's gone before.
