Harry Cassidy isn't a smooth Casanova but more your bumbling Inspector Closeau like character from Peter Sellers/Pink Panther series. A timely Valentine's gift; just around the corner.
What a treat! In this very funny book, Harry, a 38 year old widower, is a man searching for love. Unfortunately, with Harry's luck, it never turns out quite right. In his quest for love, Harry is also on a journey to find himself. In one disastrous, hilarious misadventure after another, Harry keeps doggedly moving towards his goals. The original premise might sound serious, but from the wording for Harry's singles ad to the crazy revelation at the end of the book, this story made me laugh out loud.
Harry Cassidy is a middle-aged widower and recently laid-off accountant. Four years have passed since his wife died, and his poker buddies are pushing him to get back into circulation. Thus begins a series of misadventures as Harry, a kind of bumbling Everyman, tries to find a mate and at the same time, reinvent himself. Mostly everything Harry tries--from journaling and tango dancing to age reversal tricks and grasshopper pills--has unintended, and hilarious, consequences. 27 Ways to Meet Your Mate is full of whimsy and self-effacing humor. It's a charming novel, and I heartily recommend it.
Harry Cassidy, I imagine was a lot like Schultz's Charlie Brown as a kid. Now grown up - he is still full of insecurities, still scrambling for a way to win, whether it be at work or play. His pursuit of women (4 years after loosing his wife in a rafting accident) leave readers full of chuckles and one can't help but root for this hapless and engaging character. Deservedly happy ending!
Here is a book you won't want to miss. The title sounds like a it's a self help book for lonely souls. It is not that, though you might pick up tips from Harry's misadventures on what you might want to avoid should you be in search of a mate. Written by Archibald S McCloud, attorney, writer and college professor with a BA in English and a Masters in journalism it is in fact a witty, humorous story about a 38 year old shy guy, Harry Cassidy, in midlife crisis, experiencing life after the loss of his wife in a rafting accident four years prior. Recently Harry loses his job as an accountant and decides to pursue his dream of becoming a writer. First he writes creative ads for a restaurant. Unfortunately early success fades. He finds great success in writing ads for his friends in their desire to meet women but finds no success when he writes them for himself. With the loss of his "magic pen"and a prediction of failure as a writer delivered to him by a career counselor, Harry grabs a temporary teaching job in a nearby community college. This book is all about Harry and what he does when his friends insist he find a mate. Since the loss of his wife he has had little interest in other love pursuits... until now, and only now because his friends have "bulldozed" him into doing it. Their plan is for him to follow 27 ways to meet your mate laid out in a magazine article they presented to him. He begins with suggestion number one, join a health club. With a new teaching job and his ongoing search for a mate he experiences a renewed interest in life. It's just the beginning.
Harry often relives some of his adolescent experiences as he experiences potential loves. His misadventures are hilarious, embarrassing or both. Don't miss this book. It's short in length but big in enjoyment.
